Our Story:
Around 2008 our founder, Kyle, was working as a real estate analyst. It was a fine job but it was far from a passion. As a big guy, finding shoes in the right size was always a challenge. He was often forced to do his shopping on eBay because the stores were usually out of stock for shoes in his size. Kyle was on eBay so often that he could look at a pair of shoes and tell you how much they were worth on eBay. One day while browsing the shoe section in a discount shopping store, he kept noticing that the shoes he was looking at were selling for much less than what they were selling for on eBay. Taking a chance, he bought a couple pairs, took them home, and listed them. Within a few days the shoes sold, and Kyle made himself a tidy little profit. Soon, he was stopping by discount department stores on his way to work in the morning, his way home in the evening, and any other free moments he could find. It wasn't long before the amount of money he was making selling shoes was surpassing his income from his job as a real estate analyst. That's when he decided to do it full-time. He took on a partner and the business took over the garage. Shoes were great and it was paying the bills but the work was tiresome. It took a massive time commitment to go to stores, list the shoes, ship the shoes, and manage customers. It was right around this time when Sports Authority was going through the bankruptcy process, and one of the retail locations near Kyle's house was having it's liquidation sale. Kyle was interested, so he showed up and asked, "How much for everything?" After getting his answer he did a little napkin math and replied, "I'll have a truck tomorrow to pick it all up." Getting everything listed and sold was a major challenge but what it revealed was interesting, there was a lot of potential in golf equipment. Being a guy who loved golf, the decision to pivot was simple.
From the time we decided to focus on golf equipment until today, the business is hardly recognizable from two guys in a garage. Now we have a staff of over 20 full-time employees, a 15,000 square foot warehouse, relationships with private golf courses all over the U.S., and our very own website.
Our vision is to become the golf equipment retailer that you choose if you are looking for gear on a budget. We believe that finding the right golf club is far superior to finding a new golf club. Sure, a new golf club is shiny, and that's great, who doesn't love shiny. But, the right golf club can change your game, and the right golf club could very well be a used golf club. The implicit benefit of buying a used golf club that's right for your game, is that it's a heck of a lot cheaper than something off the rack.
We like to have fun and spend a fair amount of time goofing off, read through some of the copy on StickHawk and you may laugh and you may find typos. It's all part of the experience.
But we care when it comes to your money. We sell authentic equipment and we do our best to convey the actual quality of the club you are buying, whether it's through our grading scale or all the pictures we painstakingly take of every item we list. We try to post images of the areas that get looked at most and furthermore we try to always highlight the scars. Why highlight the scars?
