Shafts

The average golfer doesn't spend much time thinking about shaft specification. The average golfer chooses clubs based on how the head looks or what the reviews say about a certain model, the shaft is an afterthought. The old man looking for new clubs might pick something with a senior shaft because of the age moniker, and a young buck who swings out of his shoes might pick X flex because it sounds cool. Are they really choosing the right shaft for themselves? Maybe, but maybe not. Maybe the old man should still be using regular and maybe stiff will suit the young buck better than X. But how to know what you should be using? This blog is written for driver shafts but the principles are the same and can be applied to any shaft you're looking for.

Here's the rub: I would contend that the shaft which is so often overlooked, has more influence on the outcome of a shot than any similar club head, and I think that most golfers who know their stuff, would agree. At the end of the day, it's not that you're dumb if you didn't know that, it's that you were never educated in the first place. Now that you know, go find a shaft that matches your swing, and get to putting pegs in the ground. Because every time you play a round of golf, you get 18 chances to immortalize yourself, don't let a weak shaft hold you back.
