Unfortunately, and surprisingly, there aren’t a lot of brick and mortar golf shops in the Austin area. Actually the only one (that isn’t a chain) we could find is The Golf Ranch located in Williamson County, or more specially Georgetown between Garey Park and Cedar Breaks Park. With raving reviews The Golf Ranch is a sporting goods store focused on, well, golf! 

They have an impressive inventory of new and used golf clubs for you to pick and choose from along with other services like Club Fittings, Repair Services, and the Harvey Penick Golf Academy where golfers can really hone their skills with one-on-one lessons. No matter if you’re a beginner or have played for a long time, these lessons will have you going out on the greens like it’s a whole new game. Plus with their golf club collection you’ll be able to hit on par in no time. The Golf Ranch which is a family owned and operated business is open Monday through Saturday 10:00am to 7:00pm and Sunday’s 12:00pm to 6:00pm.

But instead of clothing and musical instruments, Play It Again sells used sporting equipment like golf clubs, bags, balls, and more. Between the racks of clubs hanging off the walls and clubs in bags you’ll be able to at least find one club that fits your swing style. 

If you’re looking to trade-in your old equipment for a newer used club then you can totally do that too, you might be able to save even more money this way. Their trade-in services are all day so you don’t have to worry about getting there at a specific time. Play It Again Sports in Austin is located South Austin near Sunset Valley and South Lamar. Today I took my TaylorMade golf clubs to this store to sell them because I haven't been playing recently and the extra money doesn't hurt. The guy working took my clubs and looked at them for a few minutes before telling me could give me $100 for the set. Which I knew they were worth more than that, I wasn't expecting to get what I paid for them, but I knew what they were worth. So I told him I was just going to keep them. He kinda made a irritated face before handing my bag back. I immediately drove to the location up north and went through the process again. The guy looked at my clubs for a few minutes and told me he could give me $425 for my clubs. I definitely don't think the value of my clubs raised in the 30 minutes it took me to drive north. No, I believe the first guy was trying to get over on me. So my point is to stay away from this location.”

PGA TOUR Superstores also have select services like lessons, STUDIO fittings, practice bays, and clinics, along with exclusive store events weekly. This Superstore is located in North Burnet near North Austin and is open Monday through Saturday 9:00am to 8:00pm and Sunday 10:00am to 6:00pm.

He seemed very uninterested in helping at all as he made faces towards the brand of clubs we used (Titleist). He definitely lost the store some money because we were there solely to buy wedges and this interaction was just a complete turn off. Our other service provider was the cashier who physically looked upset and uncomfortable. The whole time he was cashing us out he was fighting over his headset and barely acknowledge us as paying customers. He practically threw our change at us when he was done and walked away angry at whatever situation was going on between him and the other workers. There was only 1 worker (wearing glasses) that looked polite and attentive to customers. We unfortunately were not able to get his attention because he was busy assisting so many people. He seemed to be the only helpful and patient worker in the store.”

Just like other golf store chains, Golf Galaxy has a little bit of everything for your game. 

They have a wide selection of new golf clubs, a smaller selection of used golf clubs, golf apparel, shoes, balls, bags, tech, and more. They also offer Fitting Sessions with their team, Lesson Packages, Full-Service Club Repairs, and Simulator Rentals where you can practice your swings on various courses. Now like every chain there’s bound to be lesser-liked stores out there and the average ratings for this Golf Galaxy aren’t the best, so you’ll have to be your own judge on this one. Golf Galaxy is open Monday through Friday 9:00am to 8:00pm, Saturday 9:00am to 7:00pm, and Sunday 10:00am to 6:00pm.

There is also a practice range where you can hit the golf club. The golf club can be repaired. Golf lessons are also available. There are also secondhand clubs here. I then tried online chat which led to them asking me a million questions only to suggest I visit the store in person. Absolutely ridiculous”
