Fairway Woods

Fairway woods are pretty straight forward, they don't go as far as drivers but they are longer than hybrids. The fairway wood is the club you pull out when when you hit a monster drive first shot on a par 5 and want to get home in two. Most people feel like they can hit a fairway wood more accurately than a driver so it's also the prevailing option whenever there is a tight fairway or small landing zone and discretion is the better part of valor. The majority of players on the PGA Tour carry one or two fairway woods in their bag. If you choose to carry a single fairway wood, the 3-wood is the way to go and the club that fills the length between your 3-wood and longest iron is going to be a hybrid. If you opt for the two fairway wood setup, you forgo the hybrid and go with a 3-wood, 5-wood setup or a 3-wood, 7-wood setup. It really comes down to preference. There are plenty of people out there that like having three fairway woods in the bag; 3-wood, 5-wood, 7-wood. Heck, occasionally you can find an 11-wood. If you feel comfortable with a certain setup, go with that.
