We’re Finding the Best Starter Golf Clubs for Women
Posted by Shayla Burke on Mar 11, 2026
Going through the most popular choices for those who are just starting out in the sport
When a lot of people think about the sport of golf and its players, many will picture men, which is not, not a fair assessment as current statistics via the National Golf Foundation put it at only 28% of current players are female. But women have never let something like that stop them before, and they never should because we have seen some iconic players like Lydia Ko, Annika Sörenstam, and Nancy Lopez show everybody how it’s done for years now.
It’s inspiring and it can make someone want to get into the sport proper. But getting into golf for anyone, both men and women alike, can be intimidating, especially in a sport that has so much equipment. We’ve decided to gather our best resources, breakdown what golf club does best in what situation, and give you the best starter golf clubs for women. This way you can go out onto the greens for the first time prepared and ready then ever to show who’s boss.
- Let’s Learn: What’s in your golf bag

- Where you can get reliable golf clubs

A reliable golf bag is something all golfers absolutely need.
Let’s Learn: What’s in your Golf Bag
Unlike sports like basketball and football, golf is a sport that comes with your own version of tools and each club is meant for specific types of swings. Whether it’s your first hit in the round or you’re trying to get it out of the sand, it’s important to know what each club in your bag is designed for so let’s quickly learn what you’ll need to shop for.
Starting with the one you’ll hit your first ball of the day with…
?️The Driver (and friends):
The club you’ll recognize that has the fattest head is our driver. Drivers are the club if you need to hit it far and gain some much-needed ground, particularly when you first start off on the tee you’ll want to swing hard and fast so you can try to get your ball to go the distance.
A name you might hear come up when searching for golf clubs is “woods” and the best way we can describe woods is they are like the driver’s cousin, they both hit to gather distance but aren’t necessarily built the same way. “Woods” were originally made of all wood back in the day, not so much anymore with the technology of the game advancing. You could use a wood on your second or third stroke if you need to cover more ground, they also have more curvature to help play from turf or light rough.
Then we have the hybrid which takes parts of both woods and irons- (the next club type we will talk about) and combines them, making the “hybrid” name really apt. Generally people use hybrids after they’d use woods, it’s a great “middle-ground” pick as you can get your ball out of some rougher territories but still hit a fair distance. Many use them to replace long irons.
Between picking whether to get a woods or hybrid for your first starter set we’d definitely go with a hybrid, they are easier to hit and easier to use.
?️Irons:
Irons are some tough cookies, usually you’ll have a few to choose from for different needs, and they are made of “17-4 or 431 grade stainless steel,” according to golfclub-technology- that means when you buy irons you’re gonna have 'em’ for a while. Made best for getting your ball onto the green and/or getting your ball from slightly rougher terrain so you can then switch to your putter.
But before we move onto putters, we gotta make sure that when we do get into rough terrain we have all the ways to get out, and a big part of that is thanks to:
?️Wedges:
Oh wedges, these are the clubs you pull out of your bag when your initial hit looked good but quickly went the wrong way. Used to get your ball out of places like the sands, deep rough, or another tough terrain, you’re going to be hitting hard and fast so you can go back to another club ASAP.
?️Putters:
You know when you play mini-golf? Putters are that, except a little more high-tech. Putters are something we all want to use sooner because that means the hole is within spitting distance and you can make your new personal best score. You use a putter when you need to swing slow and softly but with enough force to get that hole towards the flag.
The Best Starter Golf Clubs for Women
Alright, we know what’s going to be in our bag, now we can move onto the next step, the fun step, finding the best starter golf clubs for women. Almost all seasoned golfers will recommend getting used golf clubs before buying new when you’re first starting out, especially for certain clubs like irons, hybrids, and woods. They're cheaper and generally are just as reliable as new ones which is a win-win in our books.
There are “starter sets” out there and we will recommend one since they are relatively budget-friendly, but we are people who like to use used until you feel comfortable around golfing enough to eventually invest in getting professionally fitted. Here’s a look at what we like best:
The “Tour Edge” Complete Set
